Hi all!
I had the pleasure of photographing a friend from the local MOMS Club I am a member of meet gorgeous Joy. She was one of my Maternity models for the month of June, here’s a few of my favorites from that session..920
After she rocked the maternity portraits, I offered her my time to have me come and document Naomi’s birth (via c-section) and because it was my first birth session I gifted her all the images as a thank you! So here is Naomi’s birth story…

I got to St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston, WI just 20minutes before they took Joy to prep her for surgery. _DSC0120-2 _DSC0164 _DSC0165 _DSC0167-2

Tasty Tues. | A healthier mom | S&A Grilled Cheese

Hello my health driven friends,
I have had many people ask me how my weight loss journey has been going and how I am staying motivated etc.. So I have decided to give a little helpful nudge to my fellow healthy (moms, in particular) on quick easy smoothie/lunch/dinner recipes every Tuesday. I made a personal goal for my family to try a new healthier recipe every week so this will keep me accountable, and hopefully help you with healthier substitutes for your family! This week I made Spinach and Artichoke Grilled Cheese. *my husband didnt like the spinach, “too spinachy”

SPINACH ARTICHOKE GRILLED CHEESE

Ingredients makes: 3 sandwhiches
-Fresh spinach, 3 cups chopped (I used chopped frozen spinach, and thawed it before cooking.)
-Canned Artichoke Hearts – 3 (or about 6 oz)
-2 Garlic Cloves
-1 Tablespoon Olive oil
-2 Tablespoons Light Sour Cream
-1 Cup Shredded Cheese- blend of mozzarella, Monterrey jack and Provolone. (I just used Fat-Free Mozzarella)
-6 slices of bread of choice (I used 100% Whole Wheat Sara Lee)
-Kosher Salt
-Butter or Olive Oil (bread spread)

1. Dice up 2 Garlic Cloves. Chop Artichokes. Wash and stem spinach (if you bought fresh) then chop it coarsely.
Image
(in case anyone didn’t know what Artichoke hearts looked like) 🙂
Image

2. Heat 1 tablespoon Olive Oil in pan. Add diced Garlic, saute 30 seconds. Then add Spinach and a pinch of Salt, and saute a few minutes until just limp.
Image
Add Artichokes and saute for another minute or so until heated through. Drain off liquid from pan.
Image
Stir in 2 Tablespoons Sour Cream and another pinch of Salt.
Image

3.Spread butter (or Olive Oil) on one side of 6 slices of bread.
Image
Heat griddle pan to medium high heat. Place 2 pieces of bread on griddle, buttered side down. On each piece, spread some shredded cheese, spinach artichoke filling, some more cheese (1/2 Cup cheese per sandwich), and the other piece of bread.
Image
When the bottom bread is browned, flip sandwich and cook until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.
Image
(sorry for the bad cell phone pictures :\ I will definitely be making Tasty Tues. visually beautiful to tie in my photography skills)

What did you think of this post? Would you try this recipe? What kind of sides would you think to go with this recipe? We had sweet potato fries.

A healthier mom,
Becky

8 Tips to keep all you moms working out!

Plan Ahead

“Schedule your workouts in your daily planner, just like you would a dentist or salon appointment. This helps to minimize your chances of skipping your workout — you’ve already set aside the time in your day.”

Rise and Shine

“Work out first thing in the morning if possible. Get in the habit of going to bed earlier so you can get up in the morning before your kiddos and get to work. Days are very unpredictable with children, and if you save it until later there’s a good chance you’ll have to miss it more often.”

Keep Your Priorities Straight

“Don’t forget to take care of yourself first. If you don’t keep yourself healthy, how are you going to take care of your children?” This was the reason I thought NOW IS THE TIME. Having my daughter has made me realize just that! I want to be here for her, I can’t do that the way I am feeding myself and living!

Take Advantage of Naptime

“I utilize nap times. As soon as my daughter goes to sleep, I go start my workout, before any housework or anything else.”

Make It a Family Affair

“Include your children in your fitness routine if you have older kids! Take a family bike ride, go on a run at the track, or even use your infant as a weight for squats and crunches. Not only do you get a workout in, but your family profits from time spent together.” I got a family membership to the YMCA and we can take Phoenix swimming or she can go to mini care while we workout and she gets a workout playing with the kids!

Use a Spy Cam

“Get a video monitor. You can see when your child wakes up, and if she or he is playing nicely you might just have a few extra minutes to finish sweating.” I can’t tell you how much I LOVE my video monitor. I have got my workouts in this way, she plays in her crib while I finish up a LOT. Lifesaver.

Video It

“Use DVDs. I have a large selection of workout DVDs I can do at home during nap time. Then I don’t have to think about what to do. I just push play and follow along.” I love being able to do a quick 45min workout dvd while she naps, especially days you can’t get to the gym!

Up the Intensity

“Utilize any kind of HIIT workout or 10 minutes of high-intensity routine to get your heart rate up. Those kind of workouts are a godsend with kids at home when you can’t go to a gym to workout.”

I hope these tips helped moms, but If you have more tips please comment below and share!
Thanks for taking time out of your busy lives to read this post.

10 Ways to Avoid Weight Gain this Holiday Season

PicMonkey Sample
We all fear the weight gain during this busy time of year. There is always good food everywhere we go, it’s hard to keep ourselves in check to not overdue the eating. Here is 10 tips to help you have a great holiday season and not gain weight!

1. DON’T SHOW UP HUNGRY
Eating a small, healthy meal before you head out to the party will keep you from overindulging.
2. If your baking for the holidays make small batches
If you must bake during the holidays, cut those recipes in half!
3. Skip appetizers
Cheese and crackers or bacon-wrapped anything are all common party appetizers. Skip these high-fat delicacies and save your appetite for the main course.
4. Fill up on Veggies
If you hit the vegetables first, you’ll have less room for sweets, carbs, and booze.
5. Use a small plate to dish up your food!
Using smaller plates leads to eating smaller portions.
6. Only have ONE dessert
Your typical holiday spread will be filled with every dessert known to humankind. So to keep yourself from going overboard, limit your sweet tooth to one piece or slice of your favorite sugary indulgence.
7. Mingle away from the kitchen
Position yourself as far away from the food platters as possible.
8. Have a two alcoholic drink maximum
Too much alcohol is not only bad for your waistline, but it will also lower your inhibitions and make you more likely to overeat all night.
9. Keep working out
The holidays are no excuse to skip your workout. Squeeze in a run, a hike, or a bike ride whenever you can.
10. Limit your carbs
Do you really need the mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cornbread, AND stuffing all onto one plate? Try to stick with one serving of one carb.

Hope this post helps you keep your holiday cravings in check! I will be implementing these for myself also.
I’d love to hear from you. Are you going to try this? Did it work for you? Do you have any other tips?

No-Grate Liquid DIY Laundry Detergent with Dawn soap

What you need:
Gallon Jug(s)

3/4 cup of Borax | $3.38 (Walmart)

3/4 cup of Washing Soap | $3.24 (Walmart)

3/4 cup of Dawn dish soap (I used both the Original) | $11.28 (Sams club)

*Funnel for easy pouring (I didn’t have one and will ext time!) |$2.97 (Walmart)

Image

Image

Okay make sure your gallon jug is cleaned out! Pour in your 3/4 cup of Washing Soap and 3/4 cup of Borax into your jug, then add about 4 cups of HOT water to dissolve the ingredients, then fill the rest with COLD water.

Image

Image

Leave space at the top to pour in the Dawn soap.

Image

Pour in the 3/4 cup of Dish soap.

Image

Then SLOWLY add water until your jug if full.

Image

DO NOT SHAKE to mix together! To give it a better mix just put the jug on its side (with the lid TIGHTLY on)

Image

Then all you need for each load of laundry is 1/4 cup of the detergent!

Image

Image

Image

Then for easy storage I keep my 1/4 cup right on top of my jug after I rinse it out!

_DSC0575

And its just that EASY and it cost me  $17.90 and I made 3 gallons right away and can make at least 3 more gallons! I mean its a NO BRAINIER to saving some money on household item and you exactly what is in it and going on your families skin!

I’d love to hear if you tried this and how your family likes this DYI Laundry Detergent.

Soey |Class of 2014| Central Wisconsin Senior Portrait Photography

Let me start off by saying it was an absolute pleasure to get the chance to meet and photograph this gorgeous young lady! She was a former exchange student at my high school and loved the area so much, she decided to stay in Wisconsin through high school. She is now a Senior at Aquinas High School in La Crosse but still lives with her original host family in my hometown (New Lisbon). I don’t know about you but I think that is pretty awesome, she had such a great experience with her host family that she is now on her third year as a part of their family!
Soey was a lot of fun to work with on top of the great conversations we had about her time in the U.S. I am honored to have been chosen to capture this milestone in her life, and see great things in her future! She told me she wants to become a Veterinarian, I could tell she was a animal lover from the get go.

I swear this families property had EVERYTHING a photographer dreams up for a classic Senior session. Big Willow tree.

Image

Image

Old buildings like this barn!

Image

Railroad tracks right next to the property.
Image

A twig archway? Who knew this would be an awesome and unique piece for photos, right? This was in her grandparents front yard!ImageImage
Need I mention the gorgeous prom dress?
Image

A beautiful Maple tree, right in the back yard!

Image
AND a very bright and full yellow tree right across the street. I mean seriously a photographers dream, on top of having a stunning subject to photograph. Everything tied together beautifully and Soey had so many great shots it was hard to chose which to show!
Image
Thank you Soey! I wish you the best on your last few months in High School and see great things in your future!

Wausau Family Session |Central Wisconsin Portrait Photographer|

I love meeting new clients! Catherine is beyond gorgeous and guess what she has an 11 year old daughter….psh I know right, I still cant believe how beautiful these two are!

Image

Image

Rick is one lucky guy to be surround by these two fun, loving, beauties!
Image
They even brought along their cute pup! I may not know much about dogs but she was a good girl during the whole session.

Image

I could have photographed Brianna all night! She was an absolute riot to work with.

So to start off the session I tell Brianna to stand close to her mom and without missing a beat she says “that’s not my mom, shes my sister.” and gives me a huge grin. What a sweetheart, and I would have believed her had I not actually known better!
